For many young girls, Barbies might prove to be the toy that they’ve always wanted. In fact, studies have shown that Barbies are the single most popular toys among children of all ages. These miniatures of a young, beautiful, blond woman have taken some flak in the recent years though. This is mainly due to the fact that they advertise perfection and beauty as the single-most important things in life. Arguments against Barbies are that they inspire anorexia and depression in young girls who play with them. Although they have been increasingly criticized during the past few years, it remains the best-selling toy every single year in a row. Young girls love to play with Barbies as an escape from the sometimes stressful world. Thus, in a way, it can be concluded that these beautiful dolls actually offer a solution to problems such as anorexia and depression. All in all, no matter how many people or organizations may be opposed to Barbies, young girls will always continue to love them.
